It was warmest winter on record of Weather Forecasts Center

The 2019-2020 winter season was the warmest on record throughout the observation period of the Weather Forecasts Center, the Center’s head Gennady Roșca has told IPN. As to the cooling witnessed during the last few days, the forecaster noted that the weather returned to the normal temperatures for this period.

The decline in temperatures was influenced by air masses coming from the north of the continent. “More exactly, masses of air from the North Pole reached the Republic of Moldova’s and we had negative temperatures at night,” said Gennady Roșca.

According to him,
in this period it is normal for the nighttime temperatures to fall to minus 4 degrees Celsius and for the daytime temperatures to rise to 7 degrees Celsius. Compared with last spring, this year the spring is warmer as Moldova’s territory was under the influence of warm air masses coming from Africa. “Spring only started and we cannot anticipate the developments,” stated the forecaster.

As of March 18, temperatures are expected to rise to 18 degrees Celsius. The lows at night will vary around minus 2 degrees Celsius. Rain all over the country is forecast as of March 21. On March 23, there will be at most 3 degrees Celsius during the day and minus 3 degrees Celsius at night.
