Martisors – trinkets worn at chest in March to celebrate the coming of spring – began to be offered for sale in the center of Chisinau. The sellers say they come to trade with pleasure and hope this year the sales will be higher than the previous years. According to them, the Chisinau residents noticed that martisors are already for sale, but most of them purchase the trinkets closer to March 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I made the martisors myself. I used only thread made by me. I interwove the white and red thread as I liked. I also used green hues that symbolize life in motion. Making martisors is a hobby for me, but it also yields good returns,” said seller Tatiana Prepelita, from Cojunsa village of Straseni district. The traders offer a wide range of martisors for sale – in the form of bells, hats, bags, snowdrops, candies etc. The passerby admire the trinkets, search for novelties and calculate how many to buy and for whom. “The snowdrops are in great demand. The prices remained unchanged and the buyers are satisfied. The sales are good and we are glad that our one-year-work is rewarded. This year I made 700 martisors, last year – 1,300, but I sold only 1,000 and earned 3,000 lei. The other 300 trinkets remained for this year,” said Natalia Garbu, from Lozova village, Straseni. The sellers say it is the parents who buy martisors for their children rather than the children for their parents. The cheapest martisor costs 2 lei, while the most expensive one – 20 lei. The martisors for the office are larger and their prices range between 35 lei and 100 lei. The traders say the unsold trinkets can be in demand the next year so they don't despair. The Centru district head's office in Chisinau issued the sellers of martisors with gratis selling authorizations. Last year, they paid 50 lei for one.
