It is realistic for the European Union to take a decision on Moldova’s European integration towards the end of 2014, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said in an interview for Prime TV, IPN reports.
According to the Speaker, it is very realistic for Moldova to obtain the initialing of the text of the Association Agreement before the Eastern Partnership Summit of Vilnius.
Igor Corman said it was a surprise for him when his party decided to put him forward for Speaker, adding it was the initiative of the Democratic Party’s chairman Marian Lupu and this decision was aimed at ensuring balance inside the government coalition.
“Marian Lupu has some special qualities. If you remember, he already made similar gestures that are rare in Moldovan politics. I refer to the case when he applied for the post of head of state. He took a step aside then in order to avoid the early elections,” stated the newly elected Head of Parliament.
He also said that he will do his utmost to mediate the conflicts that will appear in the Moldovan politics. He stressed it is regrettable that the Moldovans suffered because of the political crisis. “I hope we will learn from our mistake,” said the politician.
Igor Corman was elected Head of Parliament on May 30.
