There are no egg processing companies in Moldova as this is not reasonable when the fresh eggs are expensive, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s Market Policies in Animal Breeding Division Vitalie Ciobanu has told IPN.
Vitalie Ciobanu said that the eggs are dried and made into powder in Moldova only when they cost 5 lei ten items, which is a very low price. “The powdered eggs are not competitive on the market. The producers see no reason for processing them if the price of fresh eggs is higher,” he stated.
In order to be able to make powdered eggs, the producing companies need large investments in modern technology. “There are several companies that process the eggs when they become cheap, but there are no companies dealing exclusively with this. Their equipment is very old,” said Vitalie Ciobanu.
While in Chisinau on a visit recently, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Cioloş said that Moldova can be included in the lists of states that export powdered eggs to the EU. According to Vitalie Ciobanu, for the Moldovan egg producing companies to be able to export powdered eggs, they must make large investments in equipment.
