This is how Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu commented on the statements that the resignation of Tudor Pantiru from the post of president of the Constitutional Court is somehow related to the decision by which there was rejected the Liberals’ request to check the constitutionality of the law to introduce the mixed voting system or that this way it is freed the seat for “Plahotniuc’s man” Mihai Poalelungi.

It is the prerogative of the judiciary to find the successor to Tudor Pantiru, while the legislature will not intervene, stated Andrian Candu, answering the questions of journalists after a meeting with the heads of parliamentary commissions on February 2, IPN reports.

Answering another question, the Speaker said he will take part in the meeting of the Supreme Security Council, which President Igor Dodon said he will convoke to condemn the statement on the union with Romania signed by several Moldovan communities. But he has doubts about the opportunity of convening the Council to discuss the issue. “I personally do not think that symbolic issues should be discussed by the Security Council. There are many other pressing subjects,” stated Andrian Candu.

As regards Lib-Dems’ accusations that Valeriu Ghiletski was chosen Deputy Speaker of Parliament with fewer votes than it was declared and it was necessary, Andrian Candu said this approach looks like ‘revenge taking’ between former party colleagues and the Liberal-Democrats can resort to the official dismissal procedure if they want.

Asked when the second Kroll report will be published fully, the Speaker of Parliament said the National Bank, not Andrian Candu should answer this question.

The meeting with the heads of parliamentary commissions precedes the start of the legislature’s spring-summer session next week.
