Romania’s President Traian Basescu, on a short visit in Chisinau, has promised Moldovan citizens, who stood on Tuesday, January 16, in front of the Romanian Consulate in Chisinau, that the problem regarding visas for Romania will be unblocked within a fortnight, Info-Prim Neo reports. Romanian head of state has also promised to adjust the legislation to ease the procedure of receiving Romanian citizenship for those about 530,000 Moldovan people that applied for. Traian Basescu arrived at the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau at 12.00 PM, after an over hour-long meeting with his counterpart Vladimir Voronin. The President was met by tens of people that applauded on his arrival. Basescu shook their hands, as they asked Basescu to reintegrate Romania and lead Moldova towards Europe. After this short meeting, Traian Basescu, accompanied by the Ambassador of Romania to Chisinau, Filip Teodorescu, bodyguards and Moldovan policemen, mass-media representatives and common people, walked along Bucuresti Street, then turned on Vlaicu Parcalab till the consular Division of Romania, where a crowd of visa applicants was waiting for him. People asked the President’s help in settling the visa problems that they constantly confront with after January 1, when Romania joined the European Union, and chanted “Single Union”, “Save Us!”, “Down with the Border on Prut!.” Afterwards, Basescu has returned to the Embassy of Romania. Romanian President will leave for Bucharest at 2.00 PM.
