Issue concerning Nicolae Nogai’s immunity to be examined Oct. 4

The Supreme Council of Magistrates postponed examining Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko’s application to bring to trial the Bender Court of Appeals judge Nicolae Nogai, who passed a decision that facilitated the raider attacks on several banks in Moldova, until October 4, Info-Prim Neo reports. The September 27 meeting of the Council was held behind closed doors. Judge Nicolae Nogai asked postponing examining the application to lift his immunity, arguing that he was on medical leave and could not attend the meeting. Prosecutor Valeriu Zubco told the press after the meeting that the judge tries to delay the examination of the case. The last week’s meeting of the Council that was to examine the same issue did not take place as a quorum was not present. According to prosecutors, if the judge is found guilty he will serve three to seven years behind bars and will be unable to hold a public post for five years.
