Irregularities identified at polling places
Monitors identified the first irregularities on the day of the referendum. A stamp disappeared at polling place No. 54 in Peresecina village, Orhei, while in Varnitsa, there was raised the flag of the European Action Movement. In a news conference on September 5, the head of the Promo-Lex Association Ion Manole said the 300 monitors of the Association oversee the plebiscite and make sure that the violations are removed as soon as possible, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Promo-Lex jurist Pavel Postica said most of the irregularities were recorded in the Transnistrian region. In Corjova village, the Transnistrian authorities banned holding the referendum, barring access to the local polling place. The roads in Varnitsa, Cocieri and Rezina are heavily congested, while the queues at the border crossing point in Varnitsa, through which the voters are trying to get to Chisinau to vote, are over one kilometer long. Some of the people leave their cars by the roadside and head for the polling places on foot.
Violations were identified in Chisinau as well. The observers informed about election posters existing within 100 meters from a polling place. “At the request of the observers, the members of the electoral office took measures and removed them,” Pavel Postica said.
