Irina Vlah: Gagauzia’s budget has doubled in three years and a half

The budget of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Ggaauzia has doubled during the past three years and a half. This was possible owing to the cooperation between Gagauzia and the foreign partners and the serious grants provided by these, Bashkan Irina Vlah was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR Moldova channel.

Irina Vlah said the own revenues increased two times and now the local authorities can calmly launch social programs in Gagauzia. “At the same time, we managed to build a good dialogue with the businesspeople from Gagauzia and these invest in the foundation of new enterprises and in the creation of new jobs,” she noted.

The budget of Gagauzia now totals 848 million lei. The transfers from the state budget represent slightly over 50% of this sum. The autonomous unit’s budget is expected to reach 1 billion lei towards the end of 2019. “Yesterday we adopted the draft budget by which we directed over 100 million lei to economic projects and about 40 million lei to social programs,” stated Irina Vlah.

The Bashkan also said that four new kindergartens and a new hospital were built in Gagauzia during the past three years. Furthermore, with Turkish financing they could found a modern medical diagnosis center. “Now the people can perform the necessary examinations locally, in Gagauzia, and do not need to travel to Chisinau for the purpose,” added Irina Vlah.

As to the next elections to choose the administration of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah said she will run independently and does not deny that she is supported by the Party of Socialists. “In 2015, I undertook not to run on behalf of a party in the Bashkan elections and that I will be the Governor of all the locals,” she stated.
