Irina Vlah: Doctors in Gagauzia want vaccine with a higher level of efficiency

The Governor of UTA Gagauzia Irina Vlah denies the reports according to which the doctors in the autonomous unit refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19. According to the Bashkan, the employees of hospitals want to be immunized, but are waiting for a vaccine with a higher level of efficiency. Irina Vlah said the people cannot be obliged to accept a particular vaccine. Conditions should be created for the population to choose what vaccine they want, IPN reports.

Given the reports that the doctors of hospitals of ATU Gagauzia refuse to be immunized with the AstraZeneca vaccine, Irina Vlah said the health workers of the region cannot be obliged to be vaccinated. The doctors are waiting for another vaccine.

“Our doctors want to be vaccinated, but they must be persuaded. I talked to doctors and they told me that they want to be immunized, but they possess a lot of information. They read a lot about vaccines and want to be immunized with vaccines with a higher level of efficiency,” Irina Vlah stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

Moreover, she noted the vaccination subject is intensely politicized in Moldova and this diminishes people’s confidence in the efficiency of the vaccine. During her recent visit to Turkey, Recep Tayyr Erdogan promised assistance to Moldova in fighting the COVID- 19 pandemic by donating a batch of vaccines.

“We should get vaccines from the East and from the West. Conditions should be created for the people to choose what vaccine they want to be administered to them. We cannot give instructions to the people. We must persuade them. I paid a visit to Turkey and had a discussion with President Erdogan there. Turkey is ready to offer assistance to our country. Turkey uses the Chinese vaccine. Not the producing country is yet important. The people should be able to make a choice,” stated Irina Vlah.

In the COVID-19 immunization campaign, Turkey uses the Chinese vaccine developed by Sinovac. Since the vaccination campaign started in Moldova, the hospitals in ATU Gagauzia were supplied with 240 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines for immunizing 120 persons.
