The government lives in a parallel world and has no idea about what really worries the citizens, what problems they would like to be addressed and solved by the authorities as a priority, said the leader of the Moldova Platform, Irina Vlah, who presented the citizens’ concerns identified within the “Voice of the People” campaign.
“In addition to the multitude of problems that the people face in their localities, there are also general, countrywide problems that concern especially the inhabitants of district centers, but also those who live in rural areas. Among the main problems that worry the inhabitants of the Republic of Moldova are the exodus of the population, the risk of war and also the establishment of dictatorship,” Irina Vlah told a press briefing at IPN.
She said that only in the past two years, according to statistical data, 120,000 citizens left the country. “In reality, the situation is much worse and the figures are much higher and more worrying. What is serious is that those who until yesterday represented the middle class, now, in the good times, reached the poverty line. If the government didn’t apply the ostrich algorithm and pulled its head out of the sand, it would see the demographic catastrophe and maybe try to do something. Although, I doubt it has the capacity to do so,” said Irina Vlah.
According to her, besides the exodus of the population, the people are also concerned about the possibility of Moldova being engaged in a war. “In addition to the demographic crisis and the fear that Moldova can be engaged in a war, the establishment of dictatorship in Moldova also worries the people. More and more people tell us that now they feel more dictatorship than at the time of other leaders of Moldova with tendencies similar to Maia Sandu’s. There is a kind of advanced fear. Many speak half-heartedly. They are afraid of being persecuted for their point of view,” noted Irina Vlah.
She pointed out that the citizens invoke concrete situations when people they know suffered only because they have opinions that differ from those of the government or because they dared to get involved in the activities of particular opposition forces. “The opinion expressed by many of those with whom I discussed during the “Voice of the People” campaign is that even the most basic human rights are not respected in Moldova, that the police force is at the authorities’ beck and call and is used to deal with those who have opinions differing from those of the government, that the justice and the press are controlled practically entirely by Maia Sandu’s regime, that the presidential election will be rigged, and others. The people no longer trust the so-called rule of law in the Republic of Moldova as long as the power is in the hands of Maia Sandu and the little yellow people and the word ‘dictatorship’ is pronounced more and more often,” said Irina Vlah.
