Gagauzia governor Irina Vlah is asking the acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu to dismiss Vasile Stoinov, the autonomy’s chief prosecutor.
Irina Vlah wrote on Facebook that Vasile Stoinov was appointed illegally. “First of all, only a person who works at Gagauzia Prosecutor's Office could be appointed as chief prosecutor of the region, which is not the case. At the time of his appointment he didn’t work as prosecutor," the governor says.
Irina Vlah also specified that Gagauzia’s Prosecutor General was appointed by representatives of the Democratic Party. "He has concrete orders", one of them being the opening of a criminal case against Irina Vlah in order to prevent her from participating in the electoral campaign for the elections of Gagauzia’s Bashkan.
"I insist on cancelling the order of Vasile Stoinov’s appointment as Gagauzia’s Prosecutor General. He must be dismissed from this position. This should happen in the near future and one of the deputies from the Prosecutor's Office of Gagauzia should be appointed in his place, as stipulated by the legislation”, Irina Vlah declared.
Irina Vlah also spoke about the initiative to amend the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, which provides for the approval of the Prosecutor General candidature in the region by the People's Assembly of Gagauzia. According to her, this initiative should contribute to bringing the law on the Prosecutor's Office in accordance with the Law on the special legal status of Gagauzia.
