IPTV subscriber numbers rise
In the first half of this year, more than a half of the 12,000 new subscribers to multichannel TV services chose IP television (IPTV), and the remainder chose cable TV services, according to the National ICT Agency, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Of the 12,000 new subscribers, 6,200 were connected to Moldtelecom's network, 1,600 to Sun Communications' network, and 4,300 to other operators' networks.
The total number of multichannel TV services rose to 268,200 and their penetration rate reached 7.5%. The total number of IPTV subscribers rose from the end of last year by 18.4% to 41,600, and that of cable TV subscribers by 2.7% to 216,900.
Statistics show a rapid increase in the number of digital TV services. In six months their number rose from 80,100 to 93,000. This includes 41,600 IPTV subscribers and part of the cable TV subscribers. The share of subscribers to digital TV services rose to 34.4%, with analogue TV services taking the remaining 65.6%.
Sales of broadcasting and re-broadcasting services stood at over 154.7 million lei, 80.7 million lei of which was obtained by multichannel TV service operators.
In the first half of 2012, there were 127 licensed operators that provided broadcasting and re-broadcasting services. The largest shares in terms of sales on the multichannel TV market are held by Sun Communications and Moldtelecom, of 32.3% and 24.5%, respectively. The companies Focus-Sat and AMT held market shares estimated at 7.6% and 4.2%, respectively, and the other operators held a combined 31.4% market share.
