Reality shows that Europe does not need the Republic of Moldova. A prosperous state means a prosperous economy and Moldova can now produce and sell only three types of strategic goods – wines, vegetables and fruit. It can sell these products on the CIS market as the European market is saturated. “The Eastern Partnership Summit confirmed that the case of the Republic of Moldova is in the lowest drawer of Europe’s preoccupations,” stated President Igor Dodon. In a statement, he noted that the EaP also confirmed the illusory character of the European integration. According to President Dodon, the Europeans’ disappointment in Chisinau is constant and Moldova’s chances to integrate into the EU are almost equal to zero for the next decades. By the end of this year, the Republic of Moldova will receive €21.5 million in budget support from the European Union. The Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Tax Evasion between Moldova and Georgia was signed during Prime Minister Pavel Filip’s visit to Tbilisi on November 29. While in Tbilisi, Pavel Filip had a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Kvirikashvili. Prime Minister Pavel Filip, in the November 30 meeting of the Cabinet, spoke about the results achieved by Moldova in the foreign policy sector during the last few weeks. The Association Agreement that Moldova signed with the European Union is now an obstacle to becoming a full-fledged member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), stated Tatiana Valovaya, Member of the Board (Minister) for Eurasian Economic Commission Principal Areas of Integration and Macroeconomics. The Republic of Moldova will benefit from EU support in the amount of €79 million for 2017. The money will not reach the authorities directly, but will be allocated for different projects, acquisitions, technical assistance, equipment and others and will be managed by the EU through the EBRD, EIB and other organizations. The Single Support Framework for 2017-2020 envisions €284 to €348 million in assistance. The final sum will depend on Moldova’s absorption capacity. Read more…

The Official Gazette (No. 421-427) contains other regulations awaited by our diaspora – Law to ratify the agreement on social security between Moldova and Turkey (No. 220, October 27, 2017). The given agreement, signed on May 5, 2017, is based on the European principles defined in the regulation (EC) No. 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems. The agreement benefits the Moldovan citizens who live and/or work in Turkey, including employees, freelancers, personnel of the diplomatic service, and also their relatives in Moldova. Read more…

The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) entered a new phase with a new mandate under the management of a new chief on December 1. This is Slawomir Pichor from Poland. The Cabinet approved the bills to ratify the grant and loan agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union on macro-financial assistance for Moldova and the related Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in Brussels on November 23, 2017.
