Ionel Ganea becomes new coach of CSCA-Rapid
Former player of the Romanian national football squad Ionel Ganea was named as coach of CSCA-Rapid Ghidighici, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 38-year-old coach was officially presented in a news conference on March 27. He replaced Sergiu Secu, who will work at the second CSCA-Rapid team.
“I’m not interested in the financial offer. I want to work as a coach and gain experience,” Ganea said when signing a contract for three months with CSCA-Rapid. If the team has a good performance, the contract will be extended. “The main objective is to avoid relegation,” said the new coach of the team that ranks ninth in the National Division.
Ionel Ganea played in Romania’s championship for FC Brasov, Gloria Bistrita, Rapid Bucuresti, Dinamo Bucuresti, and FC Timisoara, in Germany’s championship for Stuttgart, and then in Turkey for Bursaspor and in England for Wolverhampton. In 2007, Ganea mistreated an assistant referee in a Timisoara – Rapid encounter and received a suspension of 22 stages, which was then reduced to 16.
He played 45 games for Romania’s national squad and scored 19 goals.
After he stopped playing, he became sports director of Dinamo Bucuresti in 2009 and then second coach. In 2010, he was appointed as main coach of the second team of Dinamo Bucuresti.
