The actions of the prosecutor general are guided from London, while in his fight against the government, Alexandr Stoianoglo is counting on all the political opponents of PAS. This opinion was given by former Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Sturza. Sturza admitted that he had a discussion with the prosecutor general and that he advised him to resign, since failing to do so would result in his dismissal under the new law on the prosecutor's office.
Ion Sturza said that during an informal discussion with the prosecutor general he told Stoianoglo that he had no chance of success in his fight against the government and that he suggested that Alexandr Stoianoglo should resign as an alternative.
"We had a private discussion during which I suggested that he should resign. He should rise to the level of a statesman and understand what the aspirations of the new administration are. If he can't comply and implement these aspirations, then it is better for him to honorably step down. However, he has ambitions and a wounded ego. Additionally, he invoked a crazy claim that he is persecuted because of his Gagauz background. Stoianoglo has defied public opinion and the new government. I don't see any possibility for him to remain as prosecutor general", said Ion Sturza on TV8's "Cutia Neagră".
Sturza denied the truthfulness of Alexandr Stoianoglo's claims that during the Supreme Security Council meeting, President Sandu had asked the Prosecutor General's Office to file criminal cases against political opponents. Moreover, Veaceslav Platon, based in London, is said to be coordinating Alexandr Stoianoglo's actions, Sturza said.
"Stoianoglo has become captive and is dependent on the London fugitive's advice. You can see Platon's tone in the prosecutor's official letters. This is embarrassing. He should step down. He would be a good candidate for the position of Bashkan in Gagauzia. He is counting on the political opponents of the government, namely the socialists. Also, he is counting on Platon's lawyers from London who are advising him. It is so sad to have such partners in a crusade against the political system", Ion Sturza said.
Alexandr Stoianoglo has repeatedly said that he does not intend to resign, as he won the position of prosecutor general following a public competition. Moreover, the Prosecutor General's Office has announced that it will file a complaint with the Constitutional Court for constitutional review of the amendments to the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, which simplify the mechanism for dismissing the prosecutor general.
