Ion Sturza: Pro-Europeans have greater chances of entering Parliament

Those who have chances of entering Moldova’s Parliament today are rather pro-European not only in statements, but also in what they intend to do after the elections, considers former Prime Minister Ion Sturza. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Sturza said the current election campaign is a very calm one. Things are more or less clear and no surprises are expected, at least for the partners from Europe, IPN reports.

Asked where money for an expensive election campaign is taken from given that Moldova is a poor, developing country, the former Premier said that politics in Moldova are a business, an investment that yields profit. “It is sad, but politics in Moldova are an investment for many. That’s why they are ready to reinvest a part of the profit to maintain their positions and to secure their businesses,” stated Ion Sturza.

Asked who he will vote for, Ion Sturza said that for Moldova. “Surely I will take part in elections and I have my personal option. It is very important to cast our ballots. We will regret it if we do not exercise this constitutional right so as to be able later to ask for a report on how the people’s wishes were fulfilled,” he noted.

The politician believes that rather serious tectonic movements will happen in the structure of the political parties and in the approach to the internal problems after the elections. Some consider these movements can lead to the dismemberment of a possible government coalition and to chaos. “I think it will be a period of purification rather than of dismemberment,” he stated.
