Businessman Ion Sturza said he will not run for the post of President of the Republic of Moldova. He made this and other statements in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
“I will definitely not run. To take part in an electoral race, one must be sure that somebody will vote for them. I do not have this conviction at all. It is one thing to be popular in narrow circles and it is another thing to be popular in larger circles,” stated Ion Sturza.
The businessman expressed his skepticism about the holding of presidential elections. “It’s not known. Anything can happen in the Republic of Moldova. We can witness other surprises too,” he said.
As to the March 4 Judgment of the Constitutional Court, Ion Sturza said that he was initially shocked, but this is actually not a surprise in the current situation in Moldova. “By the theft of the billion, by quasi-total corruption, by the seizure of the state and the activity of the Constitutional Court, the Republic of Moldova became a case study for other countries. Transnistria is no longer interesting. The Republic of Moldova will be studied, as the Constitutional Court will be. I regret that the people with intelligence over the average level in the Constitutional Court compromised their careers. This refers especially to the Court’s President Alexandru Tanase,” stated Ion Sturza.
The businessman considers that the West supports the Government of Moldova only to prevent the ‘coming of the Russians’, while Bucharest supports the political project of Vladimir Plahotniuc for the same reason. “At the end of last year, Plahotniuc visited Bucharest where he reached an agreement with high-ranking officials and secured support for his political project. Ultimately, the U.S. was also persuaded that this is the only solution to prevent the coming of the Russian tanks to the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.
