Ion Ștefăniță demands resignation of culture minister

Ion Ștefăniță, former director of the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments, has demanded the resignation of Sergiu Prodan as minister of culture, accusing him of “poor management”.

“Since [Prodan assumed office on] August 6, 2021 and until today, I have not seen any meaningful work done, any progress in the field of culture”, Ștefăniță declared during a press conference on Friday.

Ștefăniță said that many projects administered by the Ministry of Culture under Prodan “have been stagnating for reasons that include political ambitions”. “No major project accomplished... Nothing has been done! Just look at the Ministry’s human resources. These are people who have nothing, absolutely nothing in common with the field of culture”, ranted Ștefăniță.

He went on to cite a Court of Audits report which, he said, found the Ministry of Culture to have “the worst of management” of all government agencies.

Further, Ștefăniță accused the Ministry of intending to hire “this random guy” as state minister. “They are preparing the candidacy of someone Roman Guneavîi, who knows nothing about cultural heritage. He is a man of the real estate who has cozied up to the yellow team, and now the Yolk is promoting him”, said Ștefăniță in a denigratory reference to the Action and Solidarity Party.

“So, in this context, let me sum up: the ministry of culture must go for inaction, for poor management, for complete impotence in everything that has to do with the Ministry of Culture”, the former director of the landmarks watchdog agency declared.
