Ion Soltoianu has been sentenced to 14 years behind bars for murder, blackmail and illegal holding of guns. The sentence was passed by the Buiucani Court on October 23, the head of the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru has told IPN.

The Moldovan kick-boxer was convicted of the murder of policeman Ion Stratulat on September 19, 2011, at a terrace in Chisinau. Soltoianu maintained he shot in order to defend himself.

Ion Soltoianu’s lawyer said they will appeal the decision to the Court of Appeals.
