Ion Paduraru, who was nominated for the post of Prime Minister by the head of state, withdrew his candidacy following the confirmation of the existence of a parliamentary majority that fielded another candidate. President Nicolae Timofti already abrogated the decree by which he earlier nominated Ion Paduraru, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, Ion Paduraru said given that a statement signed by 55 MPs was submitted, by which these propose the Democratic Party’s deputy chairman Pavel Filip for the post of Prime Minister, he ascertained the absence of any prospects of having efficient consultations with the parliamentary groups. “I don’t think it would be for the country’s benefit for me to confront the parliamentary majority, even if I hoped to have a dialogue with the parliamentary parties. I informed the head of state about the withdrawal of my candidacy and the President abrogated his decree,” stated the ex-candidate.
Speaking about Pavel Filip, Ion Paduraru said this is a compromise candidate and the head of state is expected to act in accordance with the constitutional provisions concerning the nomination of the candidate for Prime Minister. Nicolae Timofti is to take a decision in the immediate future so that the future candidate could be voted in by the January 29 deadline.
