Ion Lukianov ranks fourth at European Athletics Champs
Ion Lukianov achieved the best result among the Moldovan sportspersons who took part in the European Athletics Championships that closed in Barcelona on August 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The 29-year-old athlete ranked fourth in the final 3 000-meter steeplechase. He was very close to winning a bronze, but was outrun by Spain's José Luis Blanco. Lukianov also set his personal record of the season – 8.19,64 minutes.
Five of the six representatives of Moldova went through to the finals. Sisters Zalina and Marina Marghiev finished fifth and, respectively, sixth in hammer throwing. Oxana Juravel and Vladimir Letnikov ranked 12th in the 3 000-meter steeplechase and triple jump respectively.
The general medal standing was topped by Russia with 24 medals, including ten golds.
