Ion Dron: Replacing only persons is not enough for changing something

Replacing people is not enough for bringing about changes in Moldova. The whole system should be replaced, lawyer Ion Dron, who heads the Center for Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring, said in the program “Place for dialogue” on the public radio station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.

“We consider that if we replace persons, things will change. They think differently in the West. Not people, but the system must be replaced. If we do not change the system, everything will remain unchanged if we replace persons only. We also cannot change the system by leaving the old people. Both the system and the people must be changed, including the rules of the game,” stated Ion Dron.

The jurist considers it would be a disaster if a so-called technocratic Government with an apolitical Premier is voted in. “A Government with a politically unaffiliated Prime Minister is something utopian. A Government must enjoy political support. How will the bills be adopted in Parliament in this case? We already had such a Cabinet, that led by Gaburici, which was a failure,” he said.

Ion Dron noted that neither the state institutions can be fully outside political control, as some demand. “The parties that came to power must name their people so as to be able to pursue policies. The principle of separation of powers in the state must be respected, but this is not done in our country. It’s not normal for the prosecutor general to stay in the Head of Parliament’s anteroom. It should be the opposite, if it’s necessary,” said the head of the Center for Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring.
