International master Ion Dosca has won a new title of world checkers champion among veterans at a championship held in Kranevo, Bulgaria, on August 27 – September 2, IPN reports.
The second position was won by Ukraine’s Oleg Shapunov, while Yury Kirillov of Israel finished third. The competition involved athletes from such countries as Germany, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria, and Uzbekistan.
Ion Dosca is a multiple champion of the Republic of Moldova. He is the only checkers player who won the national championship by a full score, with no defeat and no draw.
The master holds the Cup of USSR (1980 and 1990). He is a champion of the Soviets Union in the Russian variant (1991), an awardee of World Championships in the universal variant, a world champion in the universal variant (1999), a champion of the U.S. in the pool-checkers variant (2000), and a multiple champion of Moldova in checkers in the Russian variant.
Last year Ion Dosca also won the title of world checkers champion among veterans, in Bulgaria.
