Grand international checkers master Ion Dosca became again champion of Moldova. The champion has told IPN that it is an accomplishment to win the competition the 16th time.

Grand international checkers master Elena Scovitina finished second. Ion Dosca said the second place in the men’s competition for a woman is also a significant result. He noted that the women can take part in the men’s competition, but the men cannot participate in the women’s competition. The Women’s Checkers Championship of Moldova took place in spring and was won also by Elena Scovitina.

Ion Dosca is the holder of the Cup of the USSR (1980 and 1990), a champion of the Soviet Union, Russian version (1991), an awardee of the World Championship, the universal version, and a world champion, the universal version (1999), and a pool-checkers champion of the United States (2000). He is a multiple checkers champion of Moldova, the Russian version.
