International checkers grandmaster Ion Dosca has won the international tournament Jogeva-2017, taking place in Estonia. Moldova’s many-time champion won five out of eight games, IPN reports.
The tournament brought together three world champions and one vice champion alongside over 30 other players.
Decisive for Ion Dosca was his double win over Russia’s Nikolay Struchkov, the current European champion and four-times world champion.
Ion Dosca is one of the most decorated Moldovan sportsmen and the only checkers player to have achieved a full score win, meaning no defeats or draws, in 2015. His accolades include the URSS Cup in 1980 and 1990, the URSS championship (Russian version) in 1991, is a laureate of World Championships (international version), world champion in 1999 (international), US champion in 2000 (pool-checkers) and multiple champion of Moldova (Russian checkers).
