Ion Dosca wins fifth world draughts champion title in blitz among veterans

International Grandmaster Ion Dosca has won the fifth draughts-64 world champion title among veterans, the blitz version. He scored by two points more than world champion Yuri Korolev of Russia and Asia’s champion Alisher Artykov of Uzbekistan, IPN reports.

Ion Dosca’s coach and wife Elena Tkachenko has told IPN that the preparations for the world championships that took place in Turkey’s Alanya during October 21-30 started in June with the Baltic Open Championship, where Ion Dosca was the best in all the three programs for veterans, and continued in Latvia’s Jurmala where new success was achieved.

The classic (basic) program started on Monday. In this program, the Moldovan champion won six world champion titles, alongside another three European champion titles.

Ion Dosca is the most successful draughts player of Moldova. He is the holder of the USSR Cup (1980, 1990), champion of the Soviet Union trade unions (1979, 1981) and champion of the Soviet Union (1990, 1991), Russian variant, multiple prize-winner of World Championships, universal variant, world champion (1999), vice champion of the World Mind Sports Games (Beijing 2008), U.S. champion, pool-checkers variant, (2000) and 20 times champion of Moldova.
