Ion Diacov: Prosecutor general is controlled by Vlad Plahotniuc

Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin is controlled by businessman Vlad Plahotniuc. The prosecution service is unable to fight oligarchy, while the Republic of Moldova is a captive state, former prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Ion Diacov said in the program “Interpol” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

According to Diacov, Corneliu Gurin was named prosecutor general accidentally, after he signed a contract with the Democratic Party (PDM). “The Prosecutor General’s Office does not fight against oligarchs and corrupt prosecutors because it needs them. The contests to promote and employ prosecutors are superficial as the winners are known beforehand. They name their own persons. The prosecutor general is controlled by the PDM, while he, for his part, controls the prosecution service. It happened once that a prosecutor who didn’t suit them won the promotion contest by merit. As he wasn’t wanted in that post, they started a criminal case against this and a new contest was announced,” he said.

The former prosecutor also spoke about the April 7, 2009 events. “Serious violations were committed then. I do not refer to the cases tried by judges in police commissariats. The problem resides in how these tried the cases. Most of the young people were arrested not in accordance with the law. Many of these were then tried for being caught red-handed, even if they weren’t. Nobody was yet punished, but some were promoted,” he stated.

Ion Diacov, who is the brother of the president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov, earlier this week announced that he decided to leave the prosecution service and to renounce all the state awards conferred on him in protest.
