“Ion Creangă” Library launches national reading promotion campaign

The National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” kicked off the ninth national reading promotion campaign “Let’s Read Together”. This year the campaign is devoted to the books “Leaving Oblivion” by Ion Anton and “Născocilă, Roadegumă and Păcală’s Son” by Titus Știrbu.

Asked by IPN to provide details, the library’s director Eugenia Bejan said the activities that will be carried out as part of the campaign are intended for children, adolescents, parents, grandparents and teachers. “Născocilă, Roadegumă and Păcală’s Son” is a book for children of preschool and school age, while “Leaving Oblivion” is a novel intended for teens. The books will be available from school libraries and public libraries.

The books distributed to libraries were printed in a number of 300 copies under a program financed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. The number is insufficient to cope with demand and the libraries are thus urged to additionally buy such books from publishing houses, stated Eugenia Bejan.

She also said that an increasing number of adults become involved in the campaign yearly and the books for children, for teens become family read-aloud books.
