Ion Creanga, charged with treason, remains under house arrest

Judges have granted prosecutors' request to extend Ion Creanga's house arrest for 30 days. The information was confirmed to IPN by the case prosecutor Dumitru Ștefârță. The decision regarding the suspended head of the Parliament's Legal Department, Ion Creanga, accused of treason and plot against the state, was handed down today by the Chisinau Court, Buiucani district, IPN reports.

The decision was taken even though the defense requested not to place him under house arrest because he would need specialized treatment.

At the previous hearing, the former dignitary gave assurances that he had never committed any acts that could be qualified as a crime: "My legal record is clean," said Ion Creanga. He is charged with treason and plot against Moldova. According to the lawmen, Creanga allegedly had a conspiratorial communication with the assistant military attaché of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau in 2023-2024.

Every person is presumed innocent until a final judgment is rendered.
