Ion Ciobanu: Students are obliged to leave dorms so as not to take part in elections

The head of the Liberal Youth Ion Ciobanu accuses the administration of the Winemaking College based in Stauceni commune of Chisinau municipality of forcing the students to leave the dorms where they have their residence so as not to be able to take part in the second round of elections, IPN reports.

“The students paid rent for living in dorms until the end of June. By such stratagems, effort is made to prevent these students from taking part in elections. We consider this is against the principles of democracy and the principle of free and fair elections that should be held in accordance with the electoral legislation and the Constitution and based on fair competition. Such acts can lead to the modification of the election outcome. Similar cases were reported by other education institutions of Chisinau municipality,” Ion Ciobanu said in a news conference.

The Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Stauceni Nicolae Balaur said a number of deviations from the electoral legislation were identified. “In Stauceni, they intend to rig the elections. In Goianul Nou village, the members of the electoral office of a polling place are the mother, father and their three sons. It was found out that 600 persons have their domicile in apartment No. 5 located at 20 Unirii St. We demand that the competent bodies take measures and stop the massive rigging of elections in Stauceni commune,” he stated.
