Ion Chicu: We will be unable to open kindergartens on August 1, but prepare the ground for September 1

The COVID-19 pandemic does not recede and the kindergartens will not be opened on August 1 as the declining number of infections could anytime start to rise again, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated in the talk show “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

“The pandemic continues and even if the number of cases declined by 40% compared with the middle of June, when we had almost 500 cases a day, this is not a reason for great optimism for us. We believe the current decline is temporary and the trend could yet inverse,” stated Ion Chicu.

He noted that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova didn’t become more responsible and continue to violate the rules set down by the authorities. “I want to note that a new global anti-record of over 280,000 cases was reported yesterday. We also see the developments in neighboring Romania. This anti-record renews daily. It’s clear that the pandemic does not leave the Republic of Moldova and does not leave all the other countries”.

The official said that there are chances for a vaccine against COVID-19 to be found in 2021, but until then everyone should adjust to the new realities.

“Mankind will have to somehow adjust to this new life circumstance. We must take this factor into account in our daily activities and here I refer to the economy, the social sphere, education, everything,” stated Premier Chicu.

Kindergartens will not reopen on August 1. As to schools, they are considering the seven scenarios proposed by the Ministry of Education. “As we can see, we have a diminution, but not the wanted one. That’s why the state of emergency will be extended. We will be unable to reopen the kindergartens on August 1, but are preparing the ground for reopening the kindergartens and schools on September 1. We are working on those schemes to organize the education process in schools as of September 1.”

At the same time, the authorities opened one more triage center intended for persons infected with COVID-19 at “Moldexpo” as the first center no longer coped with the situation.

“We activate other hospitals. The Saint Trinity Hospital will be again activated for these necessities. Regrettably, this problem penetrated deeply our daily agenda and we must deal with it at the levels of the Government and of society,” stated Ion Chicu.
