The Government is ready to help the farmers and the executive during the next few days will have meetings and discussions with representatives of the agricultural sector. There was identified up to 250 million lei that will be provided to farmers in assistance in this difficult period for agriculture, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated in a meeting with Democratic and Socialist MPs and the President, IPN reports.
A number of farmers on July 27 mounted a protest to show their dissatisfaction with the Government’s inaction in helping them to deal with the consequences of the drought. They asked to declare a state of agricultural emergency.
In a press release, the Democratic Party said the MPs of the government coalition discussed the situation in the country, the latest changes on the political arena and the latest developments related to the pandemic.
Premier Chicu noted that the IMF staff and the Moldovan authorities have reached staff-level agreement on an economic reform program. It would allow Moldova to access about US$ 558 million of financial assistance. The new program will build on progress made under the previous program and strive to support Moldova’s post-pandemic recovery.
The Democratic and Socialist MPs inquired about the latest developments concerning the management of the pandemic crisis given that the situation seems to be worsening. Premier Chicu said the healthcare system copes with the situation with difficulty and the doctors struggle with dedication for the health of each patient, while the authorities are making concerted effort to manage efficiently the crisis.
