Ion Chicu takes oath as minister of finance

Ion Chicu on December 10 took the oath as minister of finance in a ceremony at the State Residence. The appointment decree was signed by President Igor Dodon earlier the same day, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon congratulated the governmental team for the fact that it will now include a real professional in the budgetary-fiscal area. “I signed this decree without doubts as I indeed consider that Mister Chicu is one of the best specialists who will cope with all the problems and challenges that could be witnessed in the period. I wish you success, Mister Minister. The post of minister is a political one, but I know that you are first of all a technocrat,” stated the President.

Attending the ceremony, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said it wasn’t hard for him to suggest Ion Chicu for this post as he was secretary general at the Ministry of Finance and was fully involved in the activity of this institution. “It’s true that he will now bear this political responsibility, which is not easy and simple. I want to thank Mister Armașu, ex-minister of finance and currently governor of the National Bank, as important things were done at the ministry,” stated the Premier.

Ion Chicu is the second minister, after Victoria Iftodi at the Ministry of Justice, who was named to post by decree signed by President Igor Dodon. The President rejected all the other candidates proposed in the Filip Government, eight ministers and two deputy ministers being named by decrees signed by Adrian Candu, who held the post of President on an interim basis.
