Prime Minister Ion Chicu said the result of the presidential elections seems evident to him, given also the opinion of national and international observers. According to him, even if there were irregularities at national and foreign levels, these cannot influence the final outcome, IPN reports.
The official noted he does not have reasons to believe that these will not be validated. “For me, the result is clear. I’m glad that we, as a country, as a nation, passed this exam rather successfully. We do not have objections from the development partners, the intentional institutions specialized in the monitoring of elections. The people were able to freely express their option,” Ion Chicu stated in the talk show “Fourth Power” on N4 channel.
Asked about an eventual resignation, Premier Chicu said he sees no connection between the investiture of the new President and the Premier’s mandate. The activity of the Government, the Prime Minister is within the Parliament’s remit and the MPs decide whether to allow the Government to work or to remove it.
“A resignation is out of the question now as, if the Government during the next four weeks does not approve and submit to Parliament the budgetary-fiscal policy, the annual budgets, the laws required by the IMF, the signing of the agreement with the IMF, other financial agreements, I risk being blamed. If we enter 2021 without these laws, these important financial documents, we will face problems. That’s why the decision to abandon things would be at least irresponsible. That’s why we should work,” stated the official.
According to him, the most important thing is for the state institutions to cooperate after the new President is invested. The country will suffer if there is no cooperation and there can be different scenarios.
