Ion Ceban, the runner-up in last year’s invalidated Chisinau mayoral race, will most likely try again to win the office on behalf of PSRM in the October elections. This was announced by President Igor Dodon, the Socialists’ informal leader, in a talk show on Radio Moldova.
Dodon recommends Ceban, currently Deputy Speaker of Parliament and formerly leader of the Socialist group in the Chisinau Council, as someone who knows very well the problems of the city.
Whoever wins the mayoral office, says the president, will have to create a majority in the City Council in order “to avoid the everlasting clashes between the mayor and the Council.”
To achieve balance, Igor Dodon proposes that the deputy mayors should be nominated by the second-placed mayoral candidate.
Earlier this week, Maia Sandu said the bloc ACUM, of which her PAS party is a component, will field a common candidate, who is yet to be officially nominated.
