The constitution congress of the National Alternative Movement (NAM) will take place on December 21 and the documents for officially registering the party will be submitted then, mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau Ion Ceban said. He noted he wants his party to obtain a majority of seats on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) in the local elections so as to implement till the end all the projects launched in the capital city, IPN reports.
Ion Ceban said that to develop and modernize the municipality of Chisinau, he needs the support of the CMC and he therefore hopes that his party that is being constituted will gain a comfortable majority of seats on the Council. The deputy mayors and many of the heads of municipal divisions form part of the NAM team.
“I do not want to go and beg someone for elementary things. No one knows the details of the discussions held in the Municipal Council. The subjects are discussed for four months in an absolutely unjustifiable way. I want the people who know how to build to lend a hand in bringing about changes, in effecting them. I had meetings with hundreds of peoples who want to join the NAM team. We debated the program, the statutes and will pass them on to our partners from the West to see them. On December 21, the technical constitution congress will be held and we will file the documents for registration in accordance with the law. The foreign partners are parties from the European Union, Austria, Romania. Persons who represent the intellectuality, teachers, our team at the City Hall, most of the deputy mayors and some of the division heads, form part of the team,” Ion Ceban stated in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.
The mayor noted that the party will compete in the next elections on its own and the possibility of contending as part of an electoral bloc hasn’t been considered yet.
“The intention is to take part in all the elections from now on together with the NAM. We are a group of people with the same views. We set the objectives with regard to the municipality and the whole country,” stated the mayor.
Earlier, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița said that the NAM was featured by the United State Department of the Treasury, which sanctioned 21 persons and entities in Moldova, but Ion Ceban denied this accusation, noting that they do not bear any relation to the Russian national Yuriy Gudilin, who was put on the U.S. sanctions list.
“The U.S. Ambassador explained very well that neither Ion Ceban nor the NAM is featured. How can the NAM be featured if it does not exist yet? Yes, there were a lot of people at the head office of the PSRM. In my campaign, I campaigned myself. Yes, he (e.n. Iuriy Gudilin) ensured connection with Roscongres, which is a very big company specialized in different areas. I didn’t receive financial assistance or any other kind of assistance,” noted the mayor.
Ion Ceban announced the creation of the National Alternative Movement on December 30, 2021. According to the last public opinion poll conducted bit the International Republican Institute, if snap parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, the NAM would gain 3% of the vote.
