Ion Ceban says how he will get rid of unpleasant smell at Wastewater Treatment Station

The unpleasant smell in the capital city emitted by the sludge stored on platforms at the Wastewater Treatment Station can be eliminated if the mud is used as fertilizer for farmland when it becomes dry. The Party of Socialists’ contender for mayoralty in the June 3 runoffs Ion Ceban said this practice, even if it is a Soviet one, is the only one that can solve the problem of unpleasant smell in Chisinau.

According to Ion Ceban, the geotubes used by “Apa-Canal Chisinau” at present are not a good solution for such a city as Chisinau. These are suitable for a city with a population of under 50,000, but the municipality of Chisinau has much more inhabitants.

The candidate said that to get rid of the unpleasant smell, at least 35% of the stored sludge should be taken away and he promises he will start this process in September. The associated costs can be covered through the contract to the value of over €24.2 million that was signed by the municipal authorities with the EBRD and EIB.

In another development, Ion Ceban said he aims to reorganize the municipal housing sector managing companies. Instead of the 23 existing companies, which accumulated historical debts of over 600 million lei, there will be created five such companies, by one in each district of the capital city. The reorganization implies the optimization of the number of employees and the delegation of a part of the duties to other municipal services.

Ion Ceban said 95% of the budget of the municipal housing sector managing companies go to settle court claims.
