Ion Ceban: Our suggestion for people is to purchase season tickets

The rise in public transport fares in Chisinau was inevitable, but the suggestion of the municipality for the inhabitants of the city is to opt for season tickets, said mayor general Ion Ceban. According to him, even if the fares for trips by trolleybus and bus will be higher as from July 1, the public transport will be free for pensions and first-fourth graders, IPN reports.

The mayor of Chisinau noted that as the fuel prices rose thrice and electricity rates grew twice, the increasing of public transport fares could no longer be put off. This way, a trip by bus or by trolleybus as from July 1 will be 6 lei. The purchase of season tickets is an advantageous solution for those who daily use public transport.

“If a person buys a season ticket for six months, the price is 2-3 lei for two trips a day, from Sângera up to Vadul lui Vodă. Any next trip can cost less than 2 lei with a season ticket. Given the subsequent rises in the price of fuels and electrical energy, a lot of people prefer to leave the cars at home and the large number of persons using public transport confirms this,” Ion Ceban stated in the Special Edition on Moldova 1 channel.

The mayor said about 200,000 persons, 40,000 children and students and another 18 categories of persons, including socially deprived ones, will travel free by public transport.

“The fare is the same for trips by trolleybus and by bus and this is important as, based on season tickets, the units of transport can be changed. Our suggestion for people is to purchase season tickets. Furthermore, all the first to fourth graders will travel free, as will the about 200,000 pensioners with residence in Chisinau. The rise in fare was inevitable. In Soroca, Cahul, Bălți, the fares were increased long ago. In Chisinau, we invest a lot in public transport. Our objective is to bring at least 70 units of transport this year,” stated Ion Ceban.

Under the methodology approved by the Chisinau Municipal Count, the season ticket for a month will cost 234 lei, for three months - 594 lei, while for half a year - 972 lei.
