The mayor of Chisinau municipality Ion Ceban said the municipality is now working on the extension of the bus and trolleybus pool with new units of transport. He noted he aims to increase the number of vehicles not by 20-30 units only, but by much more units and promised to do this in the course of this year, IPN reports.
“Currently, the municipality needs 100-150 new buses. A number of 100 buses that meet the requirements of the municipality cost an estimated 380 million lei in total. Where can we take this money from? There are several financial instruments: long-term loans; investment projects or partnerships with particular organizations. Currently, we are considering all these three possibilities,” Ion Ceban stated in the program “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.
The mayor noted the bus and trolleybus pool is part of the complex transport system based on which the conception of parking places in the city, from entrances up to downtown, including multistory car parks and parking lots inside yards of apartment buildings, is being finalized.
The mayor also said that the managers of maxi-taxi routes insist on the rise in fares, but will not obtain this. “If we discuss a rise in fares, we should talk only about new, comfortable minibuses that would work together with the buses and trolleybuses and would meet all the norms and regulations, which is will reach the final point of the itinerary and will work according to schedule,” stated Ion Ceban.
According to him, as many as 682 minibuses run on the streets of Chisinau at pore sent.
