Ion Ceban: Effort to dismiss mayor of Chisinau will be a civic one

The effort to organize the referendum to dismiss the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca will be a civic one, where the political color or geopolitical option will not matter, the head of the Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Ion Ceban stated in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.

“We had discussions with representatives of different political parties. We all live in a city that is suffocated by misery. The common goal is to dismiss the major who discredited himself. Afterward, each of us will return to their party,” stated the Socialist.

Ion Ceban noted that even if the signatures required for the referendum are collected, they will not give up the possibility of dismissing Chirtoaca by the vote of the councilors. “We will follow this path too even if I’m almost sure that the 34 votes needed will not be gathered. Someone will probably get sick, while others could go on trips. Some of our colleagues could be persuaded not to vote. On the other hand, I’m sure that among the Liberal councilors are persons who will vote for the dismissal of Chirtoaca. There is also the risk that the CMC secretary will refuse to sign the proceedings of the meeting, as it happened when functionaries close to Dorin Chiroaca were dismissed. The CMC removed them, but the proceedings weren’t signed and these functionaries continue to work,” he stated.

The councilor admitted that the idea of organizing a referendum on the dismissal of the mayor of Chisinau can fail. “In our country everything can happen. We could be blocked by the legal system, as it happened to the initiative to hold a referendum to amend the Constitution and as we were blocked in 2012, when we tried to organize a referendum to dismiss Chirtoaca,” said Ion Ceban.
