Chisinau’s freshly elected general mayor Ion Ceban says he wants to rid the city of the bad smell from the Water Treatment Station by next summer, as money wouldn’t be a problem. Ion Ceban said the issue will be among the first he will deal with after he is invested, IPN reports.

“Today we have eight collectors at theWater Treatment Station, of which two are functioning, as for the others there is something going on and they are not functional. Here we will intervene. There are other issues and I do not understand why, given the fact that we have 24 million equivalent loan, we only have completed 6% of the works in 3 years. In my opinion, this is a lack of responsibility,” said Ion Ceban at the talk show “În profunzime” on ProTV Chisinau.

The mayor says that after he is confirmed as general mayor, one of the public visits will be to the Water Treatment Station, where he will also invite the press.

Ion Ceban says that during the four-year mandate he obtained on Sunday, he will also take up be the layout of a parking lot on the outskirts of the city so that citizens coming from the districts of the country can leave their cars and from there go through Chisinau by public transport.

About the ring road he promised during the election campaign, Ion Ceban says this is a project that needs serious funding - at least 202 million euros. The project provides for a total of 62 kilometers and it has to be discussed with the Government, says Ion Ceban. “We are exploring the option of developing the documentation in a year and a half and, simultaneously, looking for the best conditions for attracting money. The optimistic scenario for the completion of the belt is 3-5 years. It is a mega project, probably the largest infrastructure project for Chisinau since independence”, said the elected mayor.

Ion Ceban was elected general mayor of Chisinau on Sunday, November 3, in the second round by 52.39% of the vote.
