To the Liberals’ initiative to organize a referendum to dismiss President Igor Dodon from post, his spokesman Ion Ceban, in an answer to the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu and all those who form part of the current government, says that President Igor Dodon is any time ready to appear before the people for political trial, IPN reports.
“We understand the frustrations of one of the unionist leaders of the Republic of Moldova. We understand that President Igor Dodon’s actions caused hysteria and panic among those who do not want the Transnistrian conflict to be resolved for good and those who do not want the Moldovan statehood to be consolidated and the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova to be kept,” Ion Ceban wrote on his Facebook webpage.
The President’s spokesman says Mihai Ghimpu’s statements are rather electoral than political in character. “We consider them an attempt to restore the low political rating that he got as a result of actions taken in time, contrary to the expectations of the people and the own supporters,” wrote Ion Ceban.
According to him, President Igor Dodon is ready to repeatedly state his ideas and intentions as regards Moldova’s present and future. “We are sure that the absolute majority of the country’s people will support President Igor Dodon and the people will once again give a political lesson to the current government and all its representatives, including Ghimpu,” concluded Ceban.
Members of the Liberal parliamentary group on January 16 announced that they initiated the procedure for suspending President Igor Dodon from post. For now the initiative has been signed by the Liberal MPs only, but the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu is confident that they will garner the 34 signatures needed for the bill to be registered with the Parliament’s secretariat. The politician said there are a number of reasons why they decided to initiate this procedure, but the fact that Igor Dodon congratulated the so-called “president of Transnistria” in Tighina town is the most serious of these.
