The leader of the Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council Ion Ceban said Dorin Chirtoaca’s decision to vacate the seat of mayor general is one of the few correct decisions taken by this, IPN reports.

“It is one of the few correct decisions taken by Dorin Chirtoaca during his ten years in office,” the Socialist councilor wrote on his Facebook page shortly after Chirtoaca made the announcement.

Suspended mayor general of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca announced his decision to vacate the seat. In a news conference, he said the decision was taken in protest at the abuses committed in the city and against him. Dorin Chirtoaca also said that now that he announced his resignation, early mayoral elections in Chisinau will be held on May 20 this year.
