Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici were commemorated in Chisinau on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their death. Students of “Gheorghe Asachi” Lyceum and members of the public association “Honor, Dignity and Homeland” (Unirea - ODIP) marched from the Lyceum that bears the name of the two artists, from Buiucani district, up to the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy in central Chisinau, IPN reports.

Unirea - ODIP coordinator Radu Paslari said this is the fourth year that commemoration events are staged. “These are two great martyrs of the Romanian nation. They are the mouthpieces of the Romanianism in Bessarabia. Regrettably, they died unexpectedly,” stated Radu Paslari.

“They are real patriots who always spoke about the Romanian language, the union with Romania that is not yet possible even if it has been longed for during many years,” said tenth grader Nadina Botea.

Ana Calugaru, teacher of biology at “Gheorghe Asachi” Lyceum, said Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici continue to be famous for their patriotic songs that inspired many generations. “When we remember Doina and Ion, we remind about patriotism and love for the country. They are a symbol of the national defense. The students from our lyceum know well the activity of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici. Doina studied at our lyceum. The big festivity hall was named after her. Doina’s mother was our colleague. For us, they are very close persons,” stated the teacher.

On the night of October 30, 1992, the car by which Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici travelled from Romania to Moldova ran into a tree near Cosereni, about 49 km from Bucharest. There were four occupants in the car. The driver and the persons from the front seat survived, while Ion and Doina died.
