IOM Moldova supports dignified repatriation of Moldovans from Gaza

In coordination with the Moldovan authorities, IOM Moldova provided timely support to assist 36 Moldovans (7 adults and 29 children) who were evacuated from the Gaza Strip and arrived in Chisinau via Cairo and Bucharest, IPN reports, quoting a press release of IOM.

Their safe evacuation was managed by the Moldovan authorities through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. Once they arrived in Chisinau, IOM Moldova teams, led by the Chief of Mission, Lars Johan Lönnback, assisted them by providing accommodation, food and necessary basic needs.

These included emergency/primary health care and information on how to access medical services in Moldova; individual psychological counseling sessions; blankets, bedding sets and hygiene kits; SIM cards, to get in touch with their relatives; ground transportation for families to their final destination across the republic and in Europe.

“We are here to provide them with all the support for the first few days. We have been able to organize this lodging here at the Hotel Europa for them to stay a couple of nights while they go through the first formal procedures here,” said Lars Johan Lönnback.

Together with the authorities, full assistance and support will be provided by IOM to the families coming from Gaza for their social integration in Moldova.
