Investigation of functionaries suspected of taking bribe at Baccalaureate exams completed

The investigation of the functionaries of the Education Ministry's Assessment and Evaluation Agency suspected of taking bribe in exchange for raising grades on the Baccalaureate exams was finished. The collected evidence was submitted to the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, the director of the General Division of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime Iurie Ciorba informed. He said that the case in which four high-ranking officials are accused of passive corruption and abuse of power will be sent to the court the coming days, Info-Prim Neo reports. Iurie Ciorba said that during the investigation it was established that a person holding an important position organized the bribery in concert with specialists of the Agency. According to Ciorba, they asked and received money and goods from parents, teachers and students. Two of the investigated officials received 18,000 lei and 300 euros for modifying the Baccalaureate grades of students of a Hancesti high school and of the National College of Medicine and Pharmaceutics. Another official took 2,000 euros for similar acts. The four officials are liable to 5 to 10 years' imprisonment. They will be also deprived of the right to hold managerial posts for a period of 5 years.
