Investigation measures at PGO continued

Officers of the Security and Intelligence Service and the prosecutor in charge of the case Victor Furtună carried out investigation measures at the Prosecutor General’s Office. Stopped by the press when going out of the building, Victor Furtună didn’t offer too many details, invoking the secrecy of the investigation, IPN reports.

Asked by the journalists how it was possible to take illegal action against Alexandr Stoianoglu so swiftly, Victor Furtună said that he had enough time to take all the necessary actions prior to the arrest of the suspended prosecutor general. Asked if the arrest was made by the order of President Maia Sandu, as they rumor, the prospector said that he does not want to comment on political statements.

The Superior Council of Prosecutors on October 5 decided that prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Victor Furtună will examine the aspects invoked by PAS MP Lilian Carp in his claim about Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo. In several hours, Victor Furtună decided to take legal action against the prosecutor general and to suspend him from post for the period of the investigation. Alexandr Stoianoglo was placed under arrest for 72 hours, being charged with abuse of power, misconduct in office, passive corruption and falsehood.
