The General Police Inspectorate (GPI) appointed two new heads at the institution’s subdivisions. Gabriela Cristea will head the GPI’s International Police Cooperation Division (Interpol), while Chief Commissioner Victor Manole will serve as the head of the National Public Security Inspectorate, IPN reports.
Gabriela Cristea is a doctor of law, who until now held the position of head of the International Cooperation and European Integration Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Her appointment comes after prosecutors announced that they are investigating Viorel Țentiu, who held the position of head of the Interpol Moldova Office and is currently in pre-trial detention.
The head of Interpol Moldova Office Viorel Țentiu was detained on June 4 in a case in which public officials from the Republic of Moldova and other countries allegedly took bribes to prevent the publication of notifications by Interpol.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said it had carried out 33 searches at 12 people, with the assistance of French officers and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office started this case on April 2, 2024 based on information from France’s National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF).
