Internet access market grew 16.8% in first half of year
The sales on the fixed point Internet access market in the first half of this year rose by 16.8% compared with the corresponding period last year, to over 200 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the national electronic communications and information technology regulator ANRCETI.
The rise in sales was determined by the increase in the number of broadband Internet subscribers and the diversification of the offers of the providers of these services. The sales of Moldtelecom grew by 19.1% to over 150 million lei, while of Starnet – by 64.3% to about 30 million lei. The turnover of the other providers in the period was over 40 million lei.
The number of subscribers to fixed point wireless Internet access services increased by 54.1% compared with January-June 2009, to over 200,000. Of them, 98.1% are broadband Internet subscribers, while 1.9% are dial-up subscribers. The number of users of mobile broadband Internet provided by 3G network operators rose to over 100,000, while of users of mobile multimedia services – to over 2 million.
According to the ANRCETI, SA Moldtelecom accounts for 70.5% of the fixed point Internet access market, Starnet SRL and SA Orange – Moldova – for 12.1% and 4.5% respectively. The other operators have a market share of 12.9% together.
